Then came an angry call from Karl Rove as he realized that he was losing several reliable red states to annexation, especially North Dakota with it's lack of voter registration. Placated with the fact that he still had the southern states and Texas he ultimately gave up. We didn't tell him we will be extending liberal immigration priviledges to democratic refugees from the Mr. Rove's empire, now commonly called the United States of Bigotry. Then there were various threats of nuclear things from the Joint Chiefs of Staff which quieted down when they realized that with Wisconsin joining our new nation we now controlled their sub based nukes too. By day's end most of these old generals had moved on to new executive positions with various military contractors.
At sundown at the feet of the Father of Waters it all came together, with our Council, several mayors, tribal leaders, and the democratic governors of Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, and Wisconsin cerimonally signing the Declaration of Independence of the United States of Minneapolis. North Dakota governor Hoeven signed on too- he quickly figured out that being a governor in the United States of Minneapolis is better than being the unemployed governor of state that didn't exist anymore. Besides, he and his fellow NoDak republicans were ticked at the beltway republicans over the raw deal they got in the farm bill. Governor Pawlenty was of course absent, having been informed during his April Fool's holiday campaign trip to rural Minnesota that he wasn't governor there anymore. Returning to the mansion he found his republican majority house had permanently adjourned, having lost quorum when many republican legislators found their districts didn't exist anymore. Of course the democratic legislators enjoyed the day off and filled the balconies at the signing ceremony. Duluth and the Iron Range cities Councils and Mayors join the new union en mass, several bus fulls of them coming down and filling the lobby. Now of course comes the hard work of writing a constitution and adding additional member states and municipalities... I trust that on this date next year I can report back that considerable progress has been made!
