Subject: Samantha Smart runs for Minneapolis Library Board!

I am very excited to let you all know that today I am declaring my candidacy
for the Minneapolis Library Board! I am going to wage a vigorous and creative
campaign because I feel strongly that the continued existence of our public
libraries is in great danger - from "budget cuts" issued by a conservative
Republican administration, an unwillingness on the part of our elected
Minneapolis officials to allocate sufficient funding to keep our libraries
open, and elitism within the ranks of the Board itself that refuses to be
accountable to to regular library user - in particular poor people, working
class folk, children and elders.

The library is our most important point of access to the knowledge we need to
transform our own consciousness and understanding of systematic oppression and
exploitation, and our collective transformation of the world. I am a
passionate defender of not only keeping libraries open but expanding their
pivotal role in bringing communities together. You, too, can help my campaign
by:

1) Telling your friends and neighbors
2) Arranging other endorsements
3) Donating much-needed funds
4) Passing out literature
5) Contributing your own brilliant ideas! My new Campaign email address is

I am forwarding this message for Samantha and would like to comment...Samantha
worked very hard in the Nokomis area for our library and our schools.
She will work as hard for all communities in the Minneapolis area representing
the voices usually not heard.
