The Day of Silence, a project of the GLSEN and the
USSA, is a student-led day of action where those who
support making anti-LGBT bias unacceptable in schools
take a day-long vow of silence to recognize and
protest the discrimination and harassment -- in
effect, the silencing -- experienced by LGBT students
and their allies.

Many Minneapolis middle schools, high schools and
colleges and universities are participating.

Below find events at the U of M, events at Augsburg,
and a notice about the "Night of Noise" this Friday.
The Night of Noise is a celebration for students who
participate in Day of Silence and open to glbt
students and allies.

A resolution has been introduced supporting these
students efforts in the U.S congress. No MN
representatives are currently signed onto the Day of
Silence resolution. See text of bill at

13 April ALL DAY --Day of Silence-- Participate in the
National Day of Silence. Participants will be wearing
"gay? fine by me" t-shirts and choosing not to speak
while handing out cards saying, "Please understand my
reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in
the Day of Silence, a national youth movement
protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender people and their allies. My
deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is
caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I
believe that ending the silence is the first step
toward fighting injustices. Think about the voices you
are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end
the silence?"
