Dear friends of Twin Cities Youth, Recently we had the great pleasure of attending the sold out finals of the Brave New Voices Poetry Slam competition at the Capri Theatre in North Minneapolis. North High School teaching partners Melissa Borgmann and Dudley Voight, have brought together students from several urban Twin Cities high schools to create a team of young poets that will compete later this month at the International Brave New Voices Poetry Festival in San Francisco. The poetry, as well as its delivery is amazing. The courage of these young people to share their very personal stories, their struggles, their hopes and dreams, both moved and inspired us to want to help them be able to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to San Francisco to participate in the festival. So, we have created a special fundraising event, inviting the poets to once again share their work with you, our friends and partners in peace. This will take place this Friday night, April 15th, from 7-8:30pm at the Bean Scene in North Minneapolis. (2220 West Broadway--at the intersection of Broadway and Penn). The poets are VERY excited about this opportunity to share their work with you. If you are free, please join us! You will understand why these young artists have captured our hearts. Thank you! Your friends, Megan Goodmundson, Joy Chaney, Ann Yin, and Brian Mogren P.S. I can send a poster that was created for the event. The photo is of teen poet, Rodney Dixon, taken last month at the Peace Vigil outside of the Best Steak House on Penn. Rodney's poetry both moved and inspired all who were present. Also, here's a link to an article about the poets that City Pages published this past week. http://citypages.com/databank/26/1270/article13140.asp --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
