I think it's important to distinguish between the RESULTS of an action and the MOTIVATION of the people making it. That is to say, the results of closing GC can be to continue our systemic problems with racism and elitism without the people taking those actions being deliberately willfully intentionally racist and elitist. We have to look at our cultural institutions in light of how they either perpetuate or try to eliminate systemic racism and elitism. We're all a part of those systems. At the same time, we need to look at them objectively and see what impact their actions have. Saying something will perpetuate racism is not the same as calling people racists -- so why are so many people defensive and have their knickers all up in a bunch? If we honestly look at the IMPACT of eliminating GC on various communities and diversity, it's not hard to see what it will be. Arguing about the reasons is a cop out. Are we committed to diversity and equality or not?
