Do you live in Seward Neighborhood?
You can be part of an exciting new program called "Sierra Neighborhoods,"
focused on improving water quality using enjoyable, tangible tactics right in
your own home and neighborhood! Come to our kickoff house party in Seward
Neighborhood on Thursday, May 5th at 6:45pm. at 2121 21st Ave. S.
Why is this important? In urban and suburban areas, the main source of our
water pollution is no longer factory pipes or untreated sewage. The main source
of pollution is from our own homes, yards, and gardens. Our streets are our
streams!
The newly formed Sierra Neighborhoods program is focused on providing
education and mobilization of communities to conduct more environmentally sound

practices in homes, yards, gardens, and blocks. Working with the Seward
Neighborhood Group, and using neighbor to neighbor contact, Sierra Club
volunteers
and local residents will encourage each other in these better practices such
as
reducing toxins and yard waste, planting and landscaping for water quality,
or large scale projects like green rooftops.
Gatherings will provide opportunities for neighbors to learn about the
program and its value to them and the area's waters. Seward is the first pilot
project of this program.
If you have questions, or if you live in the Seward Neighborhood and would
like to attend, please RSVP to Cesia (saysha) Kearns at (612) 659-9124 or email
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) .
Sierra Neighborhoods is also seeking volunteers to serve on the planning
group, and experts to advise participants in proper implementation of
techniques
like building rain gardens. For additional information about the program see
 the article _http://northstar.sierraclub.org/about/journal/200504.pdf_
(http://northstar.sierraclub.org/about/journal/200504.pdf) from the Sierra
Club
North Star Journal.
Thanks,
Scott Vreeland Seward Co -chair Sierra Neighborhood Committee
