Nicely stated, Aaron. I personally hope the reorganization plan prevails, but you've summed up both the arguments and solutions that would answer those arguments.

I still challenge the widely held position that GC is being eliminated. The proposal is to combine it with the College of Education and Human Development, along with the College of Human Ecology. There's synergy there - particularly for the missions of GC and CEHD.

The U already reports on the make-up of the student body. There's no reason that wouldn't continue, and I'm sure many people will be paying attention. And it is part of the reorganization plan to offer more full scholarships to low-income students.

Anyone who has ever tried to transfer can vouch for the fact that matriculation agreements would be good for everyone involved. It sets a clear standard - if you take these courses and achieve this GPA at college X, you can transfer into program X at the U, and the credits will transfer.

By stating it this way - this is what could happen as a result of the reorganization plan, this is what can be done to mitigate those consequences - we can avoid the amorphous "what does excellence mean?" debate. That's an interesting discussion (to some), but it's an academic rather than policy debate.
