The "Republicrat" meme is another distraction, and toxic to democracy.
I believe that all but the most despicable politicians have at least some tiny kernel of interest in the public good, otherwise they would have pursued other (probably more lucrative) vocations.
Even the most statesmanlike politician must deal with the vagaries and conflicting interests their constituents. Some diversion from the path to the greatest common good is inevitable.
Bend the rhetoric of those in power to our liking at the ballot box, and their actions cannot remain too far behind for too long.
And, when it's time to vote, let's get the bastards who sell us out on this stadium thing.

It looks to me like the Greens are the real conservatives in Minneapolis.
The "Tax-and-spend-Republicrats" want to tax the poor more to subsidize the rich. The "Consume-the Environment-Republicrats" also want to tax the poor to build even more unsustainable urban infrastructure, while we need to focus on transit and conservation of both energy and the environment.
The "mainstream" (read "corporate") media and politicians live within a carefully contrived bubble which reflects convenient illusions back to the inhabitants. The notion that building any new stadium ought to be on the agenda is itself absurd. It is a waste of energy and resources that will become more precious within a few short years. It is a needless distraction and diversion. The stadium project also fosters the sense that here in the "Homeland" life will go on as usual, no matter how much violence we must inflict outside the "Homeland" to maintain the "personal peace and prosperity" of the few. Our Republicratic press and politicians continue to ignore real issues and instead focus on a nonsense project.
The tax-n-spenders have made progress, though. Now taxes are increasingly regressive, and boldly redistribute wealth from the poor to the rich! Our "free market" reveals itself: "Free for Me, But Not for Thee!"
The market is not God. The market has no mind. The market has no soul. The market cannot care. The market is not free.
Will any Republicans or Democrats have the guts to take a stand on an issue where we need real conservatism and real conservation?
