Minneapolis developer Basim Sabri admitted guilt in
three bribery convictions and was sentenced to 33
months in federal prison Thursday.

Sabri, who told the court it wasn't his style to cry,
wasn't exactly contrite, but apologized for misleading
the court and told the judge he accepted the
sentencing agreement. "I am proud, but I did make a
mistake," he said in a couple minutes of comments to
Judge Richard Kyle. "I apologize for my friends and
family and colleagues that I will be away from."

Sabri's lawyer's asked that he be allowed to serve
time in minimum security prison camp in Yankton, S.D.,
so that he can receive treatment for alcohol abuse and
get credit for going through the program. Kyle said
the Bureau of Prisons will decide where Sabri goes,
which could be Yankton or a more secure facility in
Waseca.

Sabri also was ordered to pay a $75,000 fine and
ordered to report to the federal marshals at 10 a.m.
on June 30 in Minneapolis.

Last December, a jury convicted Sabri of three counts
of bribery for trying to pay former City Council
Member Brian Herron to help him with a controversial
project on Lake Street.
