From Doug Grow, August 29, 2001, p.2b
In 2001 Rybak promised to:
• provide 24 hour snowplowing, • reduce airport noise,
• “open the door” at City Hall,
• improve relations at the state legislature,
• oppose public funding for a stadium, • refuse campaign donations in a non-election year, • bring a higher level of ethical behavior to City Hall, • refuse to take money from people with business in front of City Hall, • champion police, firefighters and workers rights, and • hold the line on property taxes.
WMarks here:
None of RT's promises bore fruit.
I didn't vote for Rybak the first time because I knew he didn't have it in him to achieve the results he promised.
* Why? He had never held public office, therefore he had no
experience in the weirdness of legislatures, city bureaucracies,
or any of the nitty gritty of an office holder's work.
* His background was in public relations, at a level which did not
put him in contact with the people he would have to convince to
see his point of view.
<>His education did not show that he had any substance to support
his promises. How could I possibly support him when I knew he couldn't pull it off.
That does not imply that I'd support Peter as a fallback vote. I
have seen Peter bring in the light rail, better focus Henn. Co.
resources where they need to be with specific, achievable outcomes
in mind, support the NRP from day one. Hell, I inadvertently
helped train him to the work he's done, the most important of
which was learning to think outside the dominant paradigm.WizardMarks, Central
