To List members and DFL delegates!
My two cents worth about the Park Board endorsements at the DFL convention tomorrow!
The one thing I ask of all of you is that you choose people to serve on the Minneapolis Park Board who care about the future of the Parks for future generations. People who want to preserve, protect this system and its independence to the umpth degree. Please chose people who want to return to a respectful, transparent and functional Board. Choose people that know how money works, know the right questions to ask, and care deeply about the Minneapolis parks.
The Park system is a very big ship that needs to get back on course is in your hands at the convention. Please think wisely about your choices. You get 4 votes for the Board ( one District - 3 at-large). It is a non-partisan race and you might think of it as, "who would the river, trees and lakes want me to choose to watch over them?
I will be seeking re-election this fall and below are some comments about my own race. I wish you all good luck tomorrow at your very, very large convention - a convention of the people. Let them speak.
Just briefly about my race. This is the #1 park system in America we need to work hard to keep it that way. My experience, history and skills support my commitment to the protection, preservation and stewardship of this Park System - the crown jewels of Minneapolis
I have brought an environmental ethic to the Park Board. I have championed dog parks and skateboard parks. Less chemicals, reduced mowing, more prairie grasses. I am chair of the City of Minneapolis Water Quality Task Force and am constantly working on efforts to clean up our lakes, streams and river.
I seek re-election in order to get on with the work of preparing a comprehensive plan that will direct the park system for the next half century. Our city has changed. The park system needs to keep up with the diversity, cultural and forward thinking opportunities to have the parks meet these new challenges.
We must clean up our evasive species. We must keep a vigilante watch over the devastating Dutch Elm Disease and Oak Wilt. We must continue our efforts to balance the budget and maintain our system to the highest of standards expected by our citizenry. I applaud the citizens who are calling for the return of a civil, transparent, honest and functional Board.
I plan to win. I plan to work hard with many others to make a change on the Park Board. I want to be part of that change for the better.
I am currently endorsed by: The 5th District Green Party, Sierra Club - North Star Chapter, AFSCME Council 5, Minnesota Women's Political Caucus, and Women's Circle of The Green Party.
