"Thus tomorrow, I intend to set aside the fact that Mr. McLaughlin is the more experienced and proven public servant, to set aside the fact that Mr. McLaughlin possesses a deeper grasp of City issues and a more profound vision for addressing these important matters, and even ignore the fact that both my wife and my mother aver that Mr. McLaughlin is the more distinguished looking and articulate candidate."
Lohman:
While I disagree with nearly every assertion in the paragraph above (I'm not going to weigh in on the "looks" thing), apparently Mr. Demgen is also going to set aside the fact that Mr. McLaughlin voted for Randy Johnson - a Republican - for chair of the Hennepin County Board....over a Democrat.
RT has been a great mayor. There's no way that someone can lead a city of this size and please every person on every issue. It's not possible. But he was handed a dismal situation in 2002 and has led this city with energy and skill. He more than deserves the endorsement at the DFL convention tomorrow. If he receives it, I consider it a win / win situation. We keep a great mayor and we keep a great county commissioner.
I'll see all of you delegates there tomorrow.
