We need to be clear: are opponents of the "stadium deal" opposed to a stadium or opposed to a "stadium tax."

I believe most people oppose the stadium tax because they (rightly, in my view) see it as a regressive tax imposed to support a project which should be funded entirely with private investment, especially at a time when public safety, education and other government services are being cut due to lack of funds.

Once again, it is about the role and purpose of government: does government exist to line the already deep pockets of professional sports entertainment, or to provide some more basic and essential services to all citizens.
