What a surprise to check my Email after a few busy days and find that I am the
subject of such controversy—all based on the erroneous assumption that I made
this letter public. In actuality, this was a private correspondence between
myself and the Editor of the Minnesota Women’s Press. Someone else has made
this letter public without my permission. I want to clarify this for you with
the timeline below:

1. I was interviewed by a reporter for the Minnesota Women’s Press on Sunday,
April 3rd. I perceived the interview to be racist.

2. I wrote an item of private correspondence to the Editor of the Women’s
Press, J. Trout Lowen, on Tuesday, April 5th. The letter was cc’d to three
other individuals.

3. J. Trout Lowen immediately contacted me. My campaign manager and I met
with her on Wednesday, April 13th, where we had a very productive talk and
resolved the issue. On Friday, April 15th, I was re-interviewed by a different
reporter, Abigail Cerra, whom I found to be very professional, courteous, and
insightful.

4. The May 4-17 edition of the Minnesota Women’s Press was published on May
4th, containing an article on me that was based on this second interview.

5. On Thursday, May 12th, someone E-mailed my private correspondence to this
list. I was NOT the person who sent this to the list.

I appreciate those who have acknowledged my right to stand up for myself in
oppressive situations. Now that I have received the Green Party endorsement,
you’ll be hearing a lot more from me and my campaign in weeks to come!

Thanks and I hope this clears up the controversy,

Farheen
