The problem with the endorsement process is that it remains cloistered. Institutional loyalty and connections often mean more than does the quality of the candidate.
I think there is a certain amount of arrogance in DFLers wanting to play the role of kingmakers in every city race. And frankly, the DFL has put forward some real stinkers over the years. Wouldn't it sound silly if a candidate was asked "Will you abide by the endorsement of the League of Pissed Off Voters?" Respecting the party and the process is one thing. Allowing it to dictate your political future is another. I consider myself a DFLer, but my goal of improving my community and my city supercedes any party affiliation.
