The city DFL convention, with 3000 delegates, is the largest political convention in the state * by far. Our state DFL convention has 1200 delegates. The city convention is two thirds the size of the Democratic National Convention, with 4,353 delegates and 611 alternates representing each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Virgin Islands and Democrats Abroad. (A quick look does not tell me how many republican national delegates attended in 2004.)
Are we too large? Depends on who you talk to. I suspect most people who do the arrangements for the convention would like a smaller convention to organize. But it seems that every election year, the person who doesn't get endorsed always says something like, "Well, there were only XXX delegates at the convention. Why should we let so few people make that decision for the whole? I'm going to take it to the people." linda higgins northside REMINDERS: 1. Be civil!
