The South Metro Airport Action Council (SMAAC) would like to invite all city
council announced and wannabe candidates and their key staff personnel as well
as Mayoral candidates and advisors to SMAAC's Spring Forum, tomorrow, Saturday,
May 21 from 11 am to I pm at the Richfield City Hall, City Council Chambers.
Minnesota's Senior U.S. Senator, the Honorable Mark Dayton, will be the keynote
speaker and he will address airport issues as they relate to the continued
operation of MSP. His remarks are scheduled for 15 minutes with a 15-20 minute
Q & A session with members of the audience. Senator Dayton is scheduled to
arrive around 11:15 am.

This Forum is also open to the General Public. You do not have to be a member
of SMAAC to attend (but we will certainly give you the opportunity to become a
member if you so desire).

As potential members of the Minneapolis City Council and Mayor following this
Fall's election, this Forum will give you some background information about the
airport noise issue and update you on the fast-breaking current issues. As
most of you probably already know, you will either be inheriting or initiating
a potential lawsuit against the FAA/MAC/Northwest/other airlines regarding
policy failures in the sound mitigation program. As a voting member of the
city's government, your votes will determine how deep the lawsuit is and how
many city resources are dedicated to supporting the effort. If you will
potentially be representing a ward south of downtown, you will probably
encounter airport-related questions from voters on the campaign trail or at
candidates forums. If you will potentially be representing a ward north of
downtown, you will have to decide what resources you are willing to sacrifice
from your portion of the city pie so that the city presents the strongest
lawsuit possible.

And since the Forum is going to be held at the Richfield City Hall in their
City Council Chambers ( SMAAC normally holds the Spring and Fall Forums at the
Windom Community Center but moved this Forum to Richfield to get a bigger hall
), your trip will enable you to compare the condition of Richfield's city
streets with those that you are used to in Minneapolis. Hopefully, this will
give you a benchmark to use when determining what city resources should be
directed to repairing Minneapolis' deteriorating infrastructure.

Copies of SMAAC's current Newsletter will be handed out at the Forum. Make
sure to sign up to get on SMAAC's mailing and e-mail list.

On behalf of SMAAC's Board of Directors, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow
morning.
