TO the Mpls Public Libraries and anyone else on this list:

The Women's Prison Book Project is a collectively-run, volunteer-operated,
not-for-any-profit organization located at ARISE Bookstore on Lyndale Ave South
and 24-25th. For more than ten years they have been collecting paperbacks and
sending them freely to women incarcerated all over this nation, women separated
from their children and families, women victimized by a racist and sexist
"justice" system, women who hunger and thirst for knowledge, information,
inspiration and distraction from the dismal existence that pervades our
prison-industrial complex. Women of color are the fastest-growing segment of
the newly incarcerated population - more than two million people in this
country (land of the free!?!)

If you read page A 13 of today's Strib, you can get an idea of what so many
women are in prison for - defending themselves and their children from male
violence.

Any one of you can easily drop books there, and the MPL can contact them and
arrange for pick-up. There will be no financial cost involved - socially
responsible people donate funds for shipping costs.
