It takes a village to raise a child but it takes a government subsidy thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis BIG to "build an affordable housing unit".
Fact is you cannot "build" an affordable housing unit; as it costs as much as building a normal housing unit. Why should we give subsidies to billionaire Sport Team Owners to build affordable stadiums, or rich real estate developers to build, and profit from, residential property? It would be much cheaper to consider modest subsidies to home buyers or renters; small amounts of assistance at the purchaser/user end of the market rather than at the "supply side". Basically, do goodin' spendthrifts support supply side economics with other folks money. Ken Bradley says, "We need to build more high density, affordable housing..." . I have to say: Kenny B., get your hammer, saw, and check book; and do it. See how it goes... Put up or,,, focus on something else. "We" do not need additional municipal debt; nor additional subsidized building projects while much City housing stock sits vacant; do we? Keith Reitman NearNorth For profit supplier of housing (made affordable w/small subsidy to renter or buyer) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken Bradley of Kenny neighborhood said: Minneapolis Folks, I am disappointed to read that 12th Ward Council Member Sandy Colvin Roy opposed affordable housing for her district. The Simpson Housing project seems perfect for that LRT corridor. We need to build more high density, affordable housing along transit corridors, and this appears to be a perfect location. I hope that the city will reconsider this project. I doubt we would have any opposition from city officials if the project was to build half million and million dollar town homes.
