Why do you persist in shouting this false myth of scarcity from the
rooftops? You are only helping those who want to maintain the status
quo and hurting those who are putting blood, sweat and tears into
changing things.

Ahem.
I do not shout.
I do not believe in the myth of scarcity or in the myth of abundance.
I do believe that some very wealthy people have created a myth of scarcity
regarding the Twins "need" for a new regressive tax to pay for a "needed"
new stadium.
I do believe that the Twins have an abundance of private resources which, if
applied diligently over thirty or forty years, could buy them said stadium.
I do believe that a few wealthy folks who own or work in our local
professional sports entertainment industry may have to budget a wee bit, but
I also believe that the game is played for love, not for money.
RE: "Blood , Sweat, and Tears."
Glad you brought that up. I can look down at my right leg right now and see
the scab from an injury that was bleeding on Monday -- got a bit of a leg
scrape while hand-parking a rather heavily loaded cargo trike.
So, there's a little blood for you. Not much, but I do bleed a little for
the cause from time to time.
I also sweat daily as I pedal prayerfully for peace and ecojustice. Quite a
bit of sweat.
I also cry from time to time. No big deal there, just life in our "real"
and "imperfect" world.
RE: My efforts being worthless and counterproductive while yours are
worthwhile and positive.
Who really knows? Ask me in a hundred years or so. I work for and speak
with people of all sorts each day about sustainability. I worked for a
woman with a "Bush/Cheney" bumper sticker on her SUV today for the second
time. We've actually had meaningful talks about sustainability. (Yes!) I
work for Democrats with "Kerry/Edwards stickers on their SUVs as well. My
clients learn that my OrganicEngines SUV is a "Sensible Utility Vehicle" as
it is very energy efficient, uses very little materials to make and operate,
and pollutes very little. I've given talks at my kids school, at our
church, and I fear impromptu little talks to folks I meet on the street. I
am a micro-eco-entrepreneur. I don't do what you do. You don't do what I
do. That's OK....?
My guess is that if we rely on the slow mechanisms of our pseudo-democracy
to provide a sustainable future for us, we will be as disappointed as if we
rely on the superstition of the "free market." It is up to us all to change
here and now, and to work for change inside and outside the system. All
authentic efforts are worthwhile, but probably not in the ways we expect.
Those most sure of their own power are often those surprised by the power of
nature, God, Goddess, evolution, and the like. The "real world" has little
to do with billionaires and millionaires. Our pseudo-democracy has very
little to do with "the real world" and too much to do with advocating for
shaping our lives according to those most sure of the power of their money
to define reality.
