Several members of the Forum have indicated that they want to make substantial contributions to the quality of life in North Minneapolis. One way to make such contributions is to create or enhance partnerships that effectively address priority community issues identified by community members in a manner that increases the power and self-determination of community residents. Although it has yet to establish a track record, a new resource for this purpose, the Northway Community Trust NWCT), is now operational at 1501 West Broadway. NWCT states that it will foster collaborative action plans in North Minneapolis "to reduce poverty and create wealth through community investment, resident engagement, and business support." After several years of planning, the Northwest Area Foundation granted NWCT $3,000,000 as an initial payment of a possible $10,000,000 NWCT fund, currently managed by The Minneapolis Foundation, all of which is dedicated to North Minneapolis. I suggest that Forum members that are now working or that have a desire to work collaboratively in North Minneapolis contact Wesley Walker, NWCT's executive director, at 612-521-4500. Arthur T.
