I think Mr. Stone is on pretty solid ground in his use of the third
person in a political report, especially one that characterizes the
actions of a another political person or competing theory. He is in
good company in doing so; a few that come to mind are: Aristotle, more
than one Caesar, Dante, Machiavelli, Benveniste, Barthes... The list is
long and the technique is very effective when used judiciously, as I
would say Mr. Stone has done here.
