http://lloydletta.blogspot.com http://lloydletta.blogspot.com/2005/06/parents-leaders-in-black-community-say.html I went to this press conference, and they were fine with bloggers covering this. Who spoke: Keith Ellison, Natalie Johnson Lee, Alfred Babington Johnson, Louis King, Duane Reed (Keith's opponent in 2002) and several others I can't recall names for. Don Samuels was not at this press conference. I'm not sure if this was because he wasn't asked to be part of it or because he chose not to come. The talking points: This appeared to be about style, rather than results - and that Peeples is getting results for African American kids. She is successfully closing the gap. I talked with Bill English from the Council of Black Churches after the press conference - and English stated that school board meetings in Plymouth (where he lives now) are more open and allow the public to speak much more than the Minneapolis School Board meetings. I think this is another example of how a DFL hegemony in Minneapolis elections fails the Minneapolis Public Schools - especially for African American Children.
