Say Amen somebody!
Had someone on the board or close to the board not leaked the rumor that
the board might vote to fire Dr. Peebles on Monday to the Strib's dogged
reporter Steve Brandt (who is doing his job particularly well on this
one), the board could have talked to the superintendent about their
concerns, the reports, the resignations and simultaneously demonstrated
to Dr. Peebles the kind of leadership style they wanted her to provide.
I don't have much faith in the process the board has used to deal with
what they think are problems if, first pop out of the box, they make a
public case out of the superintendent, proceeding to the nuclear option
immediately. This is the Minnesota Nice we want the woman to emulate?
Everything the board had to say to Dr. Peebles should have been said in
private, in closed session, without leaking word one to the press, and
in the spirit of assisting her to do the job well.
I have no opinion on Dr. Peebles' abilities and whether or not they meet
the district's needs.
