Two hot days and two days with blackouts in Southwest. The one on Wendesday happened around 10 AM before it was even hot yet and completely took out the traffic light at 50th and Lyndale (safety issue?). The sun was shining brightly and there was a light breeze, but repeatedly I've been told by Xcel's talking heads that solar power and wind power are too unreliable--something a person can't count on. Unfortunately, the only thing I can count on is losing power in my Minneapolis home.

Here's a concept, use the ratepayers' revenue not for benthic-dwelling lobbyists or costly acquisitions, but to actually to improve aging infrustructure in areas like Southwest, and maybe even provide "real" incentives for homeowners to install solar panels on their rooftops so loads can be diminished on those really hot days.

$10k of solar investment could power my house most days, that's a lot cheaper than building a new (polluting) power plant.
