Gay Pride event: Stop homophobia in our schools! Military recruiters out now! TEACH-IN Sunday, July 26 4:00pm District 202 1601 Nicollet Ave S, Minneapolis 4 blocks East Loring Park, just north of highway 94 The US military is a homophobic institution that bans openly gay, lesbian and transgender people. Yet military recruiters are invited into our schools to promote their agenda of war, racism, and prejudice against LGBT people. We need to stand up against recruiters, against right-wing bigotry, and in defense of LGBT rights. In 1993 Bill Clinton instituted the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" rule forcing gay , lesbian and transgender soldiers to stay in the closet. Since then, over 10,000 troops have been discharged for "homosexual activity." LGBT people in the military also face abuse and harassment from their peers and their officers. While the Pentagon itself estimates these cases of harassment in the 100s, the real number is higher. Most LGBT people who face harassment in the military are unable to report it, due to fear of being discharged. Military Recruiters out of our schools! Bring the troops home now! Repeal all homophobic laws, full equality now! Sponsored by Youth Against War and Racism. WHO WE ARE: Youth Against War and Racism is a network of students and young people across the Twin Cities organizing against the war and military recruitment in our schools. We are urging you to join with us and form a YAWR chapter at your school today! www.yawr.org < http://www.yawr.org/> 612-760-1980 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ____________________________________________________ Yahoo!
