Although I agree with Madeline's opinion on Starbucks, I also share Nick's wonder as to why folks find tall buildings so offensive. In my neighborhood, there is a high rise on 18th and Central Ave. where seniors live. I'm not positive, but I'd guess it's about 18 stories. Maybe it's because it's been there for as long as I can remember, but I barely notice it when I'm walking or driving in the area and somehow, the neighborhood has survived. In addition, Central Ave. has managed to get on an upward swing in recent years despite this supposed eyesore of "sky pollution" (and here I always thought sky pollution was the stuff that comes out of smokestacks...). Although I'm not sure I see myself living in a high-rise anytime soon, I have to say I find a slender 18-story building more aesthetically pleasing than a two-to-four story building that paves over an entire block.
