First of all... regarding GR Anderson's point that Don is not African-American
but rather Jamaican, isn't that a little ridiculous? The point is that Don is
black and he is an American. Split the hairs how ever you want. Are there not
more important 'hairs' to split? Im confused on how I can hear people
complaining about having the two Black council people run together, but then
turn around and say Don is not black. Which is it?

Second: Jeanne Harris: "There is ample documented evidence that Samuels has
absolutely no respect for the people of the Northside and Jordan in
particular!"

What is that documented evidence? If there's so much of it, why haven't you
presented any of the "ample" evidence. This article from City Pages directly
refutes your point:
http://citypages.com/databank/24/1185/article11445.asp?page=2. The first line?
"No politician in local memory has been as closely identified with a single
neighborhood as Don Samuels is with Jordan on Minneapolis's north side." The
article goes on to describe how Don held the fast and vigil to draw attention
to the crime that had riddle our neighborhood and the Northside. It resulted
in 12 additional State Troopers which helped keep the peace. Hmmm, that doesn't
seem to be someone that has no respect for a neighborhood of a community. The
more important question would be, what has Natalie done?

And your comments about him "going on record saying that he had no interest in
representing ethnic immigrants, etc" not only are outright lies, but directly
contradicts the "stories" the Spokeman Recorder has run, accusing Don of saying
he's not Black, he's Jamaican.

Oh, by the way, the January 2003 article "Don Samuels: 'We're organized and
we're going to change things'" in the Spokesman, quotes Don talking about
working to bring the other wards and attention to the Northside and addressing
the deconcentration of poverty in the community. Of course the article was
written before Don was running against NJL, which they have avidly and
unabashedly supported, so maybe that's the key...

Third: About Don 'maligning' the Jordan neighbors... again, rumors and
rhetoric... if any neighbors are maligned, it is because of their own doing...
they don't need Don's help with that. I am very active in the Jordan
neighborhood and I wouldn't describe any of us as maligned... everyone has
their difference of opinion, but for the most part, I think it's safe to say
that all of our neighbors want a healthier, functional, more 'pleasant' place
that we call our 'hood'.
