From the PiPress's Aaron Kahn's story this a.m. about the significance of a stadium deal happening this fall as opposed to next session:

Board member Peter McLaughlin, whose vote last May was critical to financing the ballpark largely through a Hennepin sales tax, is a leading candidate for Minneapolis mayor. If he wins, he could be replaced by a board member who opposes the plan, because McLauglin's Minneapolis board district includes a large number of stadium adversaries.

"If McLaughlin becomes mayor, it would be the end of it,'' predicted County Board member Mike Opat, leader of the 4-3 stadium majority on the board. "It's unlikely to me that a ballpark supporter would follow in his seat.''
