Mayoral candidate Peter McLaughlin, from today's Strib op-ed page: Before the City Convention, the mayor accused me of fear-mongering when I said Minneapolis needed more police officers. Just two weeks ago, Rybak said Minneapolis is safe unless you're involved in a "high-risk lifestyle." Now he says crime is his No. 1 priority.
The dilemma for residents is that the mayor's rhetoric has never matched his actions. While Rybak increased the Police Department's budget by 5.2 percent, he doubled the City Coordinator's budget, increased the Finance Department by 86 percent, and added to his own budget in the Mayor's Office by 12.2 percent. Those are Rybak's priorities, and they won't protect our families and our neighborhoods. http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/5508686.html David Brauer List manager REMINDERS: 1. Be civil!
