Gee, what an innovative idea! But for a really innovative idea, why not
have those plainclothes cops ticket bicyclists who run stop lights and signs
and break every traffic regulation known to personkind?
And while they're at it, they might begin to enforce the speed limits on the
park bike paths.

Hiawatha
I bike and I drive. When I'm in a car, I'm irritated at bad bike
behavior, and when I'm on a bike, I'm irritated at bad car behavior.
HOWEVER, there are major differences:
1. Our society strongly supports cars, weakly supports bikes. There are
a thousand ways to illustrate this: more roads for cars, more clear
lanes or signage for cars, etc. etc. Thus, I cheer when I see more
efforts to make biking safer and more accepted. And I'm sad when such an
effort is immediately followed by a car driver complaining about bikers.
These situations are not equal.
2. If a bike and a car have an accident, the biker is far more likely
than the car driver to get injured. These situations are not equal. We
should put more efforts into making bikes welcome.
Finally, I have more problems with cars when I'm biking than with bikes
when I'm driving. So lighten up, please, and support bikers.

Sure wish they would do this in Minnesota:
Bicycle Traps Coming to Utah ...
You've heard of speed traps but have you heard of a bicycle trap? Five
Utah police agencies will be participating in a state-sponsored crackdown
on motorists who aren't sharing the roads with bicycles. Plainclothes
officers will ride bicycles to catch motorists who aren't sharing the road.
