Wizard Marks wrote: This is paranoia on the part of Rybak supporters. It has no basis in fact. There are always people who want to be in public office. All of them know other people in public office. That they know each other does not equate to that they agree with each other. The implication above is that McLaughlin would "take back the town" and "run it like the old days." McLaughlin is some type of bogeyman in this scenario. Not at all true. McLaughlin's winning would mean he would take the town, not take it back since he never had it, and run it like McLaughlin would run it.
Mark Anderson replies: My impression of McLaughlin is that he has no understanding of the fiscal realities that the city is operating under, or else he knows but just doesn't care. Go ahead and raise our taxes at 20% per year, instead of the "mere" 8% we've been subject to recently, or else reach for the credit card so we can pay for it in ten years time. Everything I've ever heard McClaughlin say involves spending more money. The city is still in financial straits because of the massive credit incurred by the previous regime. That previous regime seemed to judge their accomplishments by the amounts of new spending they incurred each term. McClaughlin seems to be cut from the same cloth, which is why I compared him to SSB in a previous posting. I don't think Rybak has been a great mayor, but he at least seems to understand the fiscal realities of the city. He is trying to improve the city while paying off the debt incurred under previous mayors. Let's not resort to the credit card once again. Mark V Anderson Bancroft REMINDERS: 1. Be civil!
