The Southwest corner of Lake and Portland, now Portland Lake Motors, 43
years previously a Texaco station, before that...
At the turn of the 20th Century, there was a one-story warehouse on that
corner. It had been a skating rink, then was rented by one R. W. Sweat.
He was an inventor and the patented gizmo he came up with early on was
called "the damper flapper" and was used to make a wood stove much more
efficient. Time passed and Sweat invented this and that until he morphed
his small company into Minneapolis Heat Regulator. When he had acquired
enough $ from sales, he built a new building for his company at 28th St.
and 4th. Av. Time passed, it became a major corporation called
Honeywell, but it all started in a warehouse at Lake and Portland.
