I kinda disagree with the Observer on that statement...Victor Grambsch made
it very clear that LGA money was past tense and there were other ways
that funding could/should be secured. Alan Hooker and Gary Thaden
each spoke about budgets and funding. Since this was the first forum..
no one had a spred sheet in hand with answers.
Question was if the LGA money was not secured would they close
libraries and only three people got to answer the question. Two out of the
three said they would. So the message for future forums...what are budget
and funding sources without reliance to LGA.

>From the Observer:
"The [library board] incumbents took some heat for cutting hours and
staff, and each of them vowed to repair the damage (there was clearly
some anti-incumbent sentiment among the questioners). No one, however,
seemed to have an answer to the system’s ongoing budget crisis, beyond
sending a more city-friendly governor to St. Paul in 2007."
Residents and Library Board members alike need to face the fact that we
have a library system that was built and operated under a funding
system that no longer exists and is unlikely to return. Having a
library system that "empowers" its users is great and all but without a
funding source, those sentiments are nothing more than a whole lot of
hot air.
