Tom Friedman on publicly owned internet in Wednesday's NY Times

Thanks, Becca, for alerting us to a good viewpoint from Friedman. The
line I think pertains most to our situation here in Mpls is:
'Mr. Rasiej argues that we can't trust the telecom companies to
make sure that everyone is connected because new technologies,
like free Internet telephony, threaten their business models.
"We can't trust the traditional politicians to be the engines of
change for how people connect to their government and each other,"
And we definitely don't want to give away the rights to our future
earning, learning and security engine. We need the system to be
publicly owned with lots of room for innovations on top of and all
around the new wireless system.
