This is not an unprecedented action. In 1981, when Mpls hired police officers after a five year hiring freeze, all of the officers in the first two groups were already working as full-time police in other jurisdictions. Therefore, the rookie school was cut down. I would imagine that the new officers will be paired up with current Mpls police officers for several months once they hit the street.
