This is not an unprecedented action.  In 1981, when Mpls hired police
officers after a five year hiring freeze, all of the officers in the first
two groups were already working as full-time police in other jurisdictions.
Therefore, the rookie school was cut down.  I would imagine that the new
officers will be paired up with current Mpls police officers for several
months once they hit the street.

Why would you not want any of these officers to be women or minorities, 
Michelle?
