As an 8th ward voter, I cannot vote for Marie Hauser, though she's an OK
person and we get along fine. As I read her votes on the MPRB, I
conclude that she does want to overturn the citizen participation so
many worked so hard at for so long, self included.
There are some arguments for that position in Central neighborhood where
both Marie and I live. Before and during our NRP process, due to bad
management in the neighborhood (both staff and board), we wasted over
$1.2 million on a building on the southwest corner of 4th and Lake. It
was that waste that led up to the great debacle in Central. It is a very
scarey thing to be in charge of using our joint monies; it becomes much
more frightening when only some realize that management is not up to the
job.
What is most distressing about Marie's MPRB work is overriding the
process time and again. Process that includes the citizenry is a pain in
the butt from a board's position. Come to think of it, democracy's a
pain in the butt.
Also, Marie's failure to think long term about the natural environment
does not predispose me to trust her judgment in city hall. I'm not a
green, I'm not that big a park user, but that river is one of the
biggest natural phenoms in our lives and the lives of millions of others
upstream and down. We have to take care of it.
<>Would City Council Member Hauser be as protective of the public trust as
Commissioner Hauser is showing herself to be? My most major complaint
about the De LaSalle affair is the routine abuse of process that we
now read about regularly.
