I'm concerned that you are so quick to endorse a candidate <<<
GH: No endorsement from me, pal! I still lean to Farheen Hakeem. D.
Johnson is worth a serious look, though!
DG:
who is
anti-immigrant, pro-sprawl and stuck in the frame that taxes are
evil.<<<
GH:
I did not pick these things up from DJ's website.
Is DJ Anti-immigrant? I don't know. DJ asks if illegal immigration
overburdens our social services. A red flag goes up for me, but it is a
legitimate question, no? Is this racism, immigrant-phobia, or a real
concern....?
Is DJ ProSprawl? DJ is pro-pedestrian and pro-bike, which is the opposite
of pro-sprawl....?
Taxes are evil: well, aren't they? (It's a joke, OK?) I did not pick
that up from DJ's website....?
DG:
Johnson puts forward untruths (most of the University stadium is privately
funded)<<<<
GH: good point. However, the U of M folks are making a huge drive for a
stadium. Money will be sloshed to the Gopher stadium, then the U of M will
be begging because not enough money was sloshed to more essential programs.
Taxpayers will subsidize the Gopher stadium directly or indirectly -- just
my opinion, here. So, who knows the absolute truth about this?
DG:
makes misleading statements (internet over
the electrical grid is hardly proven technology) and lacks the vision to
understand how well-planned urban development can positively impact our
region.<<<
GH: I dunno. His ideas seem different than yours, maybe? Not necessarily
"misleading"...?
DG:
His rant about elms is simply bizarre. <<<
GH: I disagree. No rant, just a paragraph as I recall. DJ makes a good
point. We ought to think about creative ways to grow food in the city. we
can't eat elm leaves, but we can eat fruit. Cub won't be importing cheap
fruit from California or New Zealand for much longer, eh?
DG: Johnson has a lot of ideas. Whether they are good should be seriously
questioned.<<<<
GH: I agree. I like the focus on the environment and local self-reliance,
as I think that ecological changes and some economic relocalization will be
the defining issues of the next 30 years.
My sense is that a vote for the DFL is a vote for "no change at all." Don
Johnson and Farheen Hakeem are authentic alternative political voices. Don
Johnson envisions an energy-independent Minneapolis, while Farheen Hakeem's
life experience and work with children gives her a strong sense of what our
priorities need to be.
