I am familiar with the conflict of interest ordinance. Tony Scallon is correct - there is no legal conflict here. Legal conflicts generally arise only when there is a conflicting financial interest. For example: if a Board member was an employee of the school or had a contractual relationship of some kind.
Whether there is an ethical or moral conflict is up to each Commissioner to decide for themselves. When Commissioner Dziedzic invited me to coffee this spring to try and persuade me what a good idea this was, he told me to my face that this should pass because it was popular "in the parishes of Northeast" and because Brother Michael was a friend of the Archbishop. Commissioner Dziedzic and all Commissioners need to remind themselves that they are voting as stewards of our parks, representing the voters and taxpayers of the City, and not to benefit any special interest group or private institution. If they can't do so, they shouldn't vote. Barry Clegg Nicollet Island REMINDERS: 1. Be civil! Please read the NEW RULES at http://www.e-democracy.org/rules.
