I agree totally that Filing information should be public. It has
always been public at the much maligned Republican Secretary of
State's website. It's goofy that the information is supposedly
"private".
There are many of us who want to know about the candidates that are
running without the DFL label - since the DFL label is a negative for
city council and mayoral candidates.
I'd challenge the City DFL leadership to take a public stand in favor
of making candidate contact information public.
Kudos to former Republican Jim Bernstein (please come back to the
Republican Party, Jim, we need you there) for urging the city to do
the right thing.

This may not be quite what you were hoping for, Eva, but as the
Chair-elect of the Minneapolis DFL Party, I'll go on record in favor of
making candidate information public. Of course, I am not empowered to
make that happen--the policy is set by the city elections office. An
article in the Southwest Journal highlights the problem, and gives some
information about what led to the policy:

I would think that the city should be able to develop a policy that
balances privacy regulations with the public interest inherent in
candidate visibility. I hope that there is widespread interest in doing so.
