Must we keep naming things after bureaucrats, dead and living, all the time? But I suppose that's what comes from being a member of a discussion list where the majority of subscribers (many silent ones, of course) are probably bureaucrats themselves who figure they might get a skating rink or something named after them at the end of their careers
In two years there won't be 50 people who would be able to identify Countryman, other than by guessing that she was a librarian or something. Being that a library contains books, how about naming the new building after Sinclair Lewis? I was going to suggest F. Scott Fitzgerald, but I can visualize the trauma that would be caused "east of the river" if I were to suggest that. <grin> I haven't commented yet on the proposal to name the $4,000,000 bicycle overpass at Hiawatha and 27th (or so) after Martin Sabo. I don't like the idea of naming things after living people, especially living people still in office. But, being it's probably the Park Board involved, I understand that it's hard to tell them what to do. But they should be reminded that Martin likes to use his middle name all the time so that folks will know that he's Scandinavian.
