Below, I have provided a link from the Spokesman Recorder "editorial"
article written by Booker Hodges on 08/17/05. It never ceases to amaze me
that he continues to takes inappropriate "shots" at CM Samuels in the name
of furthering the black cause.
I personally can attest to the fact that I have had very specific
discussions w/ both CM Samuels and his wife Sondra regarding the issue that
Booker has decided to post only "choice bits" of. Specific statements made
during these conversations by both CM Samuels AND his wife lead me to
believe that even w/o having read the entire article from the Minneapolis
Liberator, that the intent of the way the information was dispersed by
Booker Hodges was both patently misleading and intentionally erroneous. And
if I am banned from this board for making that assertion, so be it.
One particular conversation I had with CM Samuels (and his wife Sondra)
during which there were numerous others present, brought to my attention
something that I, as a white person had never fully understood before. And
it centered around the choice of "dolls" little girls had the choice of
playing with. That is that, even african american dolls are manufactured
with "straight hair" to better conform with societal standards. Both CM
Samuels AND his wife were able to definitively and articulately explain what
a disservice this type of portrayal was doing to our society. They are both
keenly aware of the damage this does to African American children and
dead-set oppossed (rightfully so) to it.
This clearly leads me to believe that either Mr. Hodges does not really
understand the subject matter about which he chooses to write "editorials",
or he has a personal agenda related to that subject matter.
I am proud to know that there is a strong African American leader that will
speak-out against such issues that damage societal progress. I am
dissappointed that there are others that would misuse statements of such
leaders in an attempt to further their own cause.
I leave you all with one question. If Don were so ashamed to be "black",
then why would he marry, be a great husband to a woman (very beautifull I
might add) that is clearly an African American woman?
