Ken Bradley writes: Gary Hoover is correct that we do not have a National Energy Policy, but rather a scandal. Our energy issues are just starting to surface as a nation, and fossil fuel, and nuclear power industries are still receiving billions, and billions of dollars in taxpayers dollars, while making billions, and billions of dollars in profits. Reference recent Federal Energy bill Local and state government need to push for change because the federal government will not make the changes that will protect our children and grandchildren. Twenty states have adopted renewable energy standards, partly in response to global warming, and the desire to create energy independence. (Minnesota has not). California has passed strict and dramatic global warming policies, similar to the rest of the world. In 2004, California adopted regulations requiring automobiles to reduce their C02 emissions by an average of 29% by 2016, and several other states on both coasts have suggested similar standards. Governor Schwarzenegger issued an executive order announcing the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to 2000 levels by 2010, to 1990 levels by 2020, and 80% reduction below 1990 levels by 2050. Local government has to act because the federal government continues to be controlled by wealthy special interest groups that do not care about the future of our children and grandchildren, they only care about swindling the American public out of their hard paid tax dollars and increasing prices.
