David B says: The tenants - technically victims, by the way - were evicted; they had long rap sheets as juveniles clearly something was up. Good work by the landlord and also by MPD, which responded right away, kept the neighborhood informed and worked with a problem property task force to get quick action from the landlord.)
Me: Im glad this problem house was dealt with quickly- thanks to all. But this is what makes me sooooooo mad- and what many of us here on the Northside are constantly screaming about - why can't we get that 'quick' action and collaborated efforts to deal with problem properties???? I can't tell you how many of us could fill pages and pages of stories that tell how we can't even get the 4th precinct cops to get their butts of of the dag-gone patrol car to 'deal' with something. If they don't see a dead body or a weapon in someone's hand- they just cruise on by. And then we have elected officials inbig quotes saying something like "I can't believe we let the Northside get this bad" (something to that affect was said by Commish Stenglein in last week's Strib) I have flocks and flocks of teenagers that come to my block every friday and saturday night to party. I listen to them scream and yell about how drunk so&so is. I call 911 when it appears they are fighting - squads just drive by because the 20 or 30 kids in the yard have straightened up and shut up. I invite anyone to drive by my house in the 2700 block of Newton and view the waist high weeds in the vacant lot. Im not exaggerating, I have pictures. If it was a lot in Kingfield or Linden Hills - it wouldn't be that way - why is this neglect okay? The city, county and police department should be looking out for class action lawsuits. After all, we already have a public official (sort of) taking responsibility for the neglect quoted in the paper.
