It appears even the mighty oaks will not withstand the new super storms now
making their debut. The less formidable leggy elms, so over planted in our
city, will fair even worse. I hope the Park Board will keep this in mind. We
desperately need to plant more fruit trees in our city and create an edible
landscape, an important eco-tactic to reduce greenhouse gasses. We get most of
our fruit from the stores and most of the fruit is shipped in from a thousand
miles away or more in refrigerated trucks, trains and planes. Not only would
the fruit trees provide the beautiful blossoms in spring and fruit in summer,
most fruit trees are smaller or shorter and wouldn't threaten, our lives,
limbs and homes.
