Tim - Just to set the record straight, some other organizations who are not screening Park Board candidates include the Minneapolis Police Federation, Teamsters and the Minneapolis Building Trades union.
To be fair, I had several long conversations with members of Citizens for Park Board Reform and they were well aware of my positions on issues of importance to them. At least they asked! On the other hand, I have not heard a peep from Police Federation, Teamsters, Building Trades, or Firefighters. This group appears to be unique in that they did not actually screen the candidates before giving their endorsements. As far as I know, all the other Minneapolis groups sat down and talked with candidates before deciding who to endorse. But perhaps they already knew who they wanted to endorse beforehand, and didn't want to be distracted by actually hearing the candidates explain their positions. While I agree with several of the Park Board Reform's positions, I wonder about the wisdom of endorsing candidates without actually screening them.
