I moved on 01AUG1979 into Riverview Tower and sold my apartment
(2205) on next to the top floor there in MAY2002, twenty-three years
later.
Riverview Tower is only about 60-100 feet to the Southwest from the
former site of the large black round coalgas (manufactured gas)
storage tank - the location for the present-day, so-called "Bluff Street
Park".
The geography of this Northernmost tip of the Seven Corners area of
Cedar-Riverside West Bank is well known to me. I still live in C-RWB,
only ten blocks away from Riverview Tower.
Most of the land of the site some refer to as "Bluff Street Park" is land
owned by the Park Board (MPRB) and is part of the West River Parkway
parkland.
To see photos of this site showing the large black round coalgas storage
tank go to:
http://collections.mnhs.org/visualresources/
and enter "Negative No. 9833-A", and when the "Listing" page comes
up, click on "View Large Image". Here you will see a photo made in
1938 showing the storage tank. Riverview Tower built in 1972 obviously
does not show up in this photo, but its location is immediately to the left
of the storage tank on the triangular piece of land.
Next enter "Negative No. 47887", and when the "Listing" page comes up,
click on "View Large Image". Here you will see a photo made in 1949
with the storage tank clearly visible. The triangle of land on which
Riverview Tower now stands is immediately adjacent at 2 o'clock.
The large factory in which the coalgas was manufactured is at 4 o'clock
from the large black round storage tank. The factory can be seen to
be on the bluff above the Mississippi River which is running parallel to
the bottom of the photo.
If these two photos are too dark, you should be able to fiddle with your
computer to improve the black/white contrast.
