What happens when the best interests of the residents (of Minneapolis) conflict with the primary interests with the Police Federation? Who's interests become subjugated?"

What is the conflict?

I would point out to Ms. Carlson that the best interests of the City involve a whole lot more than just police officers. The City budget has to balance and so hard choices are made, and they're made everywhere in the budget, not just in the police department. Should we give up on every other program in the City budget just so the Police Federation is happy?

There are special interest groups all over the city (and on this list) that are not happy with what has happened during the past few years. But all I see is complaining about their own special interest. Too bad we don't have an MPR Budget Balancing program for Minneapolis like MPR had for the State budget. It would be interesting to see where all of these folks would have made their cuts or how much our property taxes would have gone up.

I don't think the Police Federation is doing anyone any good in all of this. It's a highly negative campaign (like McLaughlin's) that is all about me, me, me. We have an entire community here to deal with and an entire community's budget. I've asked this question before, but where would the money have come from to fund 150 more police officers? (And I realize that that is a false number, but it is one thrown around by McLaughlin and the Police Federation.)

Speak up. There is an entire City waiting for the answer.
