RE: airport noise, dueling lit drops in Ward 13 council race and Lisa McDonald's 1996 city council vote to support a resolution on how to expand the airport.

I think most of the "dirty campaigning" accusations from McDonald supporters like Eva Young are an attempt to change the subject as in Look! Over There! Away from the plane noise!

Reasonable people can disagree about how McDonald should have voted. Sen Jane Ranum says when the city council voted in favor of expanding the airport without getting ANY commitments for noise reduction, the neighborhood lost any leverage. McDonald obviously thinks it was the best deal possible she could get under the circumstances. I know good citizens who line up on either side of this argument.

And either way, it's a legitimate issue. Betsy Hodge's postcard on this was pretty straightforward and measured, with the "just the facts, m'am" kind of tone. Hodges thinks Lisa voted on the wrong side of this one. You can agree or disagree. But it's hardly "sleazy" to raise the subject and there was nothing personal in it against Lisa McDonald].

McDonald's counter-piece, on the other hand, was almost hysterical in tone. "Newcomer Hodges falsified the facts.......What other fibs is she telling you at the door?"

        Oh please.
