New issue with informative and excellent coverage of at large library and
park board candidates, "best" mayor for affordable housing policies, NRP
chances with each candidate.
It was interesting to read Samantha Smart's responses...some of her
suggestions (some going back to July of 2003) were made to the library
board. She translated her ideas into action to keep community libraries
viable (especially in Nokomis). It's heartening to see other candidates (new
and incumbent. endorsed and not) considering her ideas. The more who agree
with her suggestions (better late than never), the better for our
libraries...remember from whom you heard these ideas first.
A cleverly designed insert by Park Board Reform in SWJournal (ad to every
household and in stores). In catching up with forum letters, I see there
is, on the other end of the political spectrum, a People for Independent
Parks.
This is expensive stuff...are these groups PACs?, does anyone know where the
financing is coming from (maybe they don't have to disclose), from
individuals, developers, businesses? What is the connection between these
groups, the candidates...new and incumbent? Well, it's good for the
economy.
One caution...have seen the People for Independent Parks referred to as
People for Parks...That group was formed by citizens as a "friends" group
(and did alot of fundraising and Promotion). People like Jim Parsons and
Meg Fourney were leaders. I'm sure Ms. Fourney would prefer a distinction
between a political group and the People for Parks be made
Best wishes,
